OpenVPMS

OpenVPMS is an open source veterinary practice management system created by and for the veterinary industry. It provides a core platform for managing patient records, appointments, billing, and routine clinic administration.

Designed for configurability and extensibility, the platform lets clinics with internal IT or development resources tailor workflows and data to local needs. Small animal clinics and multi-site practices are common users, particularly when teams want on-premise control or custom reporting. Day-to-day use typically centers on scheduling, clinical documentation, and practice operations.

That said, it may not suit practices that require turnkey commercial support or minimal technical maintenance, since community-based support is common. Clinics should weigh the need for developer resources and available support options before choosing it over commercial offerings.
